Cadence plays music to the speakers in your home. It keeps what it knows on your device. Data leaves your device only when you use a feature that needs it, and this page lists each one.

The short version
- Your rooms, moments, settings, people and listening history stay on your device.
- Cadence talks to your own speakers on your own Wi-Fi.
- It talks to an online service only when you use something that needs it, like signing in to Sonos or searching radio.
- Sign-ins and keys are kept in the iOS or macOS Keychain.
- We never sell data. We never share data with advertisers or data brokers.
What stays on your device
Room names and photos, moments, favorites, people and their limits, settings, recently played, and the listening history that powers Learned Moments. None of it is sent to us.
You can turn Learned Moments off and clear your listening history in Settings. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
What's sent where
Speakers on your network
Cadence finds and controls Sonos, Denon HEOS, Google Cast and AirPlay speakers on your local network. These messages go straight from your device to your speakers. They don't pass through us.
Sonos (your own Sonos account)
When you sign in with Sonos, Cadence uses Sonos's official cloud control. Your commands go to Sonos under your own account. To play your music on a Sonos room, Cadence gives Sonos the link to that stream so your speaker can play it.
Sign-in goes through a small helper at reneos.dev. It only swaps the sign-in code for tokens, because that step needs a secret that can't live in the app. It stores nothing and logs nothing. Your tokens are kept in your Keychain.
Guest DJ
If you start a Guest DJ party, Cadence puts the party on reneos.dev so guests can open it from a QR code. It holds:
- the party's name and the menu you share (song and station titles, artists, and small cover images);
- guests' requests and the first names they type.
It never holds stream links, server addresses or sign-ins. Each party is deleted 12 hours after it starts, or sooner if you end it. Nothing is logged.
Your music services and servers
Plex, Apple Music, Jellyfin, Audiobookshelf and Subsonic-style servers: Cadence talks only to your own accounts and your own servers, when you sign in or add them.
Podcasts, radio and free audio
Searches and lookups go to public services: Apple's iTunes Search and the podcast feeds you follow; radio-browser.info and SomaFM for radio; the Internet Archive and LibriVox for free audiobooks. Cadence sends the words you search for. It sends no personal data.
Ask Cadence
Ask Cadence works without any AI service, using a built-in helper on your device.
If you add your own key for OpenAI, Anthropic or Google Gemini, your requests go only to that provider, with your key. Each request includes:
- the words you type or say;
- room names and areas;
- what's playing and the volumes;
- names of your moments and favorites, and titles from music searches it runs for you.
It never includes keys, tokens or addresses. What the provider does with it is covered by your agreement with that provider.
Microphone and speech
Cadence uses the microphone only when you tap to use it:
- to talk to Ask Cadence;
- to tune a party (iPhone and iPad), where it listens for a few seconds to a short chirp to line up your speakers.
Speech is turned into text on your device when it can be. If your device can't, Apple's speech recognition does it. Tuning recordings are measured on your device and thrown away.
Cadence Plus
Cadence Plus is a one-time in-app purchase made through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the whole payment: Cadence never sees your card, your payment details, your Apple Account or your billing address. On your device, Cadence asks Apple's StoreKit only whether Plus is active for you (including through Family Sharing). That answer stays on your device. No purchase information is sent to reneos.dev or anywhere else by Cadence. Refunds and purchase history are handled by Apple.
Apple Watch
The Watch app talks only to your iPhone. It never reaches a speaker or the internet on its own.
Keychain
Sign-ins for Sonos, Plex and your servers, and any AI keys, are stored in the iOS or macOS Keychain on your device.
Children
Cadence has no accounts and doesn't collect personal information from anyone, of any age, children included.
